CUT PAPER COLLAGES An Online Mixed Media Workshop with Gwen Lafleur

£15.00

Qty

This class aired in 2020 and is availble to watch on catch up anytime you wish

In this 2-hour online class we'll combine paints, inks, and rubber stamps to create unique collaged artworks that are perfect to use as ATCs, cards and tags, for art journal pages, or as mixed media pieces that can be matted or framed. Pick the theme, shapes, and color palette of your choice to make your own mini masterpieces.

During class we'll learn a quick and easy layered background technique to use as the basis for each collage. I'll share several techniques for creating the shaped pieces that make up your collages (along with a downloadable sheet with different shapes you can use,) and we'll assemble at least one collage together in class; the number will depend on the size and level of detail in your individual projects. You'll also come away with backgrounds and parts for several more collages.

Student Supply List:
  • 1 sheet heavy weight watercolor paper, cardstock, or similar (A4 or 9" x 12" is perfect.)
  • 1 sheet black or white (or other color) cardstock (A4 or US letter - for mounting)
  • 6-8 sheets of white cardstock or lightweight watercolor paper (~4" x 6" or ~10x15cm)
  • 2-3 colors of acrylic paint in cool or neutral colors for your background
  • 6 or more colors of acrylic paint to form the color palette for your collage images (if you want to do flowers, pick flower colors plus green & maybe brown. I'll be using PaperArtsy paints.)
  • 1-2 colors of Water-soluble crayons or pencils (IE Distress Crayons, Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks, Marabu Crayons, or similar. You can use paint if you don't have any of the above.)
  • Paint brush (flat 1" / 2.5cm brush or something similar works great.)
  • Rubber stamps - smaller patterns and texture stamps are ideal (I'll be using my stamps from PaperArtsy and a few others.)
  • Acrylic blocks if using unmounted stamps
  • Permanent Ink Pads (IE Archival Ink. I suggest brown and black and any other colors you want that go with your paint colors. Dye inks will work if you're using PaperArtsy Fresco Acrylic Paints.)
  • A strong white glue (I use PVA, but whatever you like is fine.)
  • A black pen
  • A sharp pair of scissors for detail cutting

Optional Supplies:
  • Pencil and eraser
  • A fine-line tip or bottle for your glue (I put PVA in a Fineliner bottle with a 20 gauge tip - great for details.)
  • Larger stamp images like like flowers, fish, or birds, etc... to go with your theme (but not too large - I'd say no more than 7-8cm wide / ~3".)
  • Colored gel pens (I use white a lot, plus gold, blue, green, etc...)
  • A tape runner or other permanent dry adhesive
  • 1-3 rolls of washi tape (between about 5mm - 25mm wide works best.)
  • Technical Requirements:
    • You must have a Facebook account - it's the only way we can admit you to the private Facebook classroom
    • Your computer or device should be capable of viewing video with a strong enough internet connection to stream the lesson
    • Check ahead of time to ensure that you can hear and see videos on Facebook (you usually need to both click into a live video and unmute it in order to hear and read and add comments.)
    • I highly recommend that if you don't already have it, that you download the Facebook app on your phone or device and get logged in and set up. This will make it so you can easily take in-progress photos to post for feedback directly from the app.
    Administrative Details & Class Policies:
    • Unfortunately, because this is an online class where you can view the content and have full access even if you miss the livestream, there are no cancellations or refunds.
    • I usually bring a fair amount of products and goodies to my classes for students to use. However since this is an online class, we just want to make sure it's clear that aside from the downloads posted in the Facebook group, you'll be responsible for providing all of your own supplies (please see the supply list above.) I've tried to give lots of options and alternatives so that you can pull from your stash wherever possible. The Artistic Stamper also has most of the supplies available in their shop so if you have something you need or see something that you want to try, I hope you'll help support the store. (And contact the shop if you need something that isn't linked - they may have it!)
    FAQ:
Q: How long will the Facebook group be available after the Live video is over?

Q: Can I register after the live class is over?
A: As of right now we have no plans to sell this as an on-demand class, so if you're interested, make sure to join in before registration closes.

Q: When will I get access to the Facebook group?
A: Please allow 24-48 hours for The Artistic Stamper to process your registration and send you a group invitation.
